Is Freedom of religion no more in this country?

Marie Osmond's adopted son fell to his death. Rumors are stating that it was probably because he was homosexual and the Mormon church strict teachings against homosexual may have been what drove him to it.

Roseanne Barr is asking that Marie come out and make a stand against the Mormon church... But if its written in the bible wouldnt she have to make a stand against all Christian churches. The quran is also against homosexuality so wouldnt she have to come against the Muslim Imams as well?

If this is the bible and this is what I believe then how can you preach against my beliefs? Is this not a free country? Is Freedom of religion no more in this country?

  • Old news again.....this is a free country as free as they come, but when your beliefs make a person resort to the ultimate escape, you really got to think how right is it? or when those believes stand in the way of equality and produce discrimination, how holy are they?

  • FREEDOM can ONLY exist if we do not allow our freedom to limit the freedom of others. If YOUR freedom of religion is being used to limit the Basic Human Rights and Freedoms of others, then yes, it should be limited. However, that doesn't mean you can't hold your beliefs or that your religion can't hold those beliefs, it simply means that you shouldn't use those beliefs to impose your beliefs on others. FREEDOM isn't limited to one religion or one belief system, and that means that we all have to learn where our limits are, that includes limiting beliefs or traditions which harm others to privacy. When the beliefs of one is harming others, then it should be limited for the greater good... That's what freedom is about - Greater Good, not an ideal to hide behind in order to push hate or intolerance. Tolerance of ALL is required for there to be true Freedom, that includes tolerance of those who don't follow your beliefs!

  • Freedom of religion--or freedom FROM it--is actually gaining strides. It used to be that only christians had any rights or support. All other groups were silenced and intimidated. We who were REALLY oppressed--and not just in an imaginary way like christians--are finally gaining our voice and our rights. The same constitution that protects your right to believe in any crap you choose is the same constitution that protects the rights of Jews, muslims, pagans, and atheists. And every time you act against the beliefs of others and try to deny them their rights, you get closer to losing your OWN rights. Justice is a double-edged sword. What you do to hurt others, who don't believe as you do, will end up hurting YOU!

Are you required to go to church on Sunday? Are you required to go to a certain church and only that church? No, you have the freedom to go to church or not go to church and you can choose which church you want to go to. So, no freedom of religion has not disappeared in the United States.

How is my pastor preaching to me and stating that I should not do certain things per the bible, hurting anyone? Homosexuality doesnt hurt anybody but a book of words does?

  • I think what Sabrina meant was the fact that some are using your book of words to prevent gays from having the basic right to marry. Your rights end where mine begin.... you should not use your right to Freedom of Religion to take away someones right to marry who they love.

  • Apparently you are free to worship, so long as it's PC.

PS ... in a country with free practice of religion, there is no way to guarantee a life free FROM religion. This is gross misinterpretation of what "freedom of religion" means.

  • Um...this is not a black and white issue. You cannot cherry pick what you want out of it. You don't know if "black folk" ever kill themselves. Everyone is different and everyone goes through things differently. People are murdered, raped and told crazy things every day but like I said everyone is DIFFERENT! Oh and Rumors are nothing more than that.

  • We still have freedom.. But DAILY it is being bit by bit taken from us.. Not by those who stand against christianity.. BUT BY CHRISTIANS WHO WON'T STAND FOR THIER BELEIFS.

85% Of AMERICANS claim to be "BORN AGAIN CHRISTIANS" and yet...

in every election there are issues of morality brought up.. YET LESS THAN 45% OF AMERICANS ACTUALLY VOTE.. SO assuming that the 15% of NON CHRISTIANS ARE VOTING.. THAT MEANS ONLY 30% OF CHRISTIANS ARE.. AND EVEN THEN THERE IS NO TELLING HOW.. AND WHAT THEIR VOTE STANDS FOR.. I know many "Christians" who vote party line... Just so they don't have to study the issues...

SADLY MORE ATHIESTS, AGNOSTICS ETC... KNOW THE CHRISTIAN BIBLE THAN THE "SELF PROCLAIMING CHRISTIANS." And then we wonder... WHY IS IT I FEEL SO POWERLESS.... hmmm well I say it is we have done it to ourselves!!

Christians.. EITHER PUT YOUR FAITH IN ACTION.. OR AT VERY LEAST.. QUIT RUNNING YOUR MOUTH!
