My husband has an extra rib !

In last Sunday's sermon, the preacher was talking about Genesis and said that men have one fewer ribs than women do. But last night, in bed, I counted my husband's ribs, and he has 12 pairs, just like I do.

Is he a mutant?

  • NO. Humans have 24 ribs, one on each side. Variations in the number of ribs do occur, about 1 in 200 people has an additional cervical rib and there is a female predominance.

  • I'm more worried about your preacher than I am about your husband.

I think what he is referring to is the biblical statement that God took a rib from Adam and created Eve.

But trust me, this isn't a guess on my part. It is actual science verified by many years of people dissecting cadavers and by doctors taking xrays. Both men and women typically have 12 pairs of ribs.
