  • Give him more bottle. It should be his main source of nutrients and calories anyway. Foods are only supposed to be little bites here and there any way. Give him bottle more often or add an ounce to each bottle. He doesn't even HAVE to have cereal.

  • I agree that you might need to increase the amount of formula/breast milk. If you are dead set on solids, you CAN start with a fruit or veggie, cereal isn't NECESSARY.

  • Agreed, Babies under a year don't digest solids well, especially grains. check out baby led solids especially the gil rapely article.

  • Give him more bottles. When he is 6 months old, then start offering solids. You can skip the cereal. Bananas are a great first food! You can put a pea sized piece of ripe banana on the tip of your finger for baby's first taste!

  • my little guy didn't like it at first but we give it to him mixed with a solid at night so he sleeps better. he will let you know don't stress over it.

  • It helps them sleep better because you're filling their stomach with empty calories that they don't need. Your baby really doesn't need cereal. Actually, they don't need any food until 6 months of age. Then, most peds recommend that you start with veggies or fruit.

  • They make cereal that has a fruit mixed in it too. My son hated the plain until I bought Earths best with apple, he loves it now!

  • Give him more bottle and try the cereal again next week. Or try mixing carrots in with the cereal. Make sure the cereal is not too thick. It could be the texture he has a problem with. Sometimes straight up fruit/veggies are a little too strong in flavor for first foods, so if you go that route, maybe you could mix some breast milk/formula with it. He may just not be ready. Breast milk/formula should still be the main source of nutrition anyway. Talk to your pediatrician about it.
