umbellical cord question on a 2 1/2month old..

Her umbellical cord fell off 2 weeks after delivery now i noticed she has a ooozing clear nasty smelling liquid secreasing from it. It smells like butt. If i leave it it gets a thin layer of crust where it dries, butr the inside is still liquidy

  • what do you mean, if you leave it? are you picking at it? it should dry and you need to leave it alone..don't touch it or pick at it at all!

  • You're not supposed to mess with it at all. If it's oozing you are always supposed to get the pediatrician to look at it. The oozing could be a sign of infection.

  • The PPs are all correct. You need to have her ped look at it. And probably sooner rather than later. I don't think that it's any life threatening problem, but any infection is not a good thing.

  • u need to take her in to the ped and get silver nitrate put on, it will stop that oozing, and close the button up

  • I had the silver nitrate done for my daughter who's 5 weeks old and it worked like a charm.
