China's Lost Girls?

last night we watched China's Lost Girls on netflix. My 8yr old son was really affected by it. It bothered him so much. He got very passionate and wanted to write letters & donate his money that he's been saving for legos. Does anyone know if there is anything we can do? Any organizations that are standing up for China's lost girls?

  • There are lots of great charities in China helping orphans. I think it's wonderful that your son wants to help.

On behalf of my daughter (who could easily be one of the girls growing up in an orphanage) and her "sisters" who are still there,  I thank him.

  • First what is China's lost girls? girls that have been killed? or girls sent out to fend for them-selfs?

some show kids should not see, this may be one of them.

  • here is a link were you can watch the whole show

And here is a link to a short clip on it

It's about China's one child policy and what happens to the unwanted girls.  It foccoses a lot on adoption.  But they do touch on other things like abortions, abandonment, and such.

This is one I feel is appropriate for my children.

  • Good for your son. I think China's policy on children and how the girls are the ones who suffer is atrocious. However, I also think the Chinese are shooting themselves in the foot. I remember reading in the past year that right now, single men outnumber single women. It's only getting worse.
