OK how can you build a nation from the bottom up?

I guess I don't understand how you can build from the bottom up?
If you start at the bottom with those who are less fortunate than others how can you move forward or upwards? Don't we need to build this Nation from the top down?
I am asking this anon so that there is no disclosure of party preference?

  • People are going to have to take responsibility for their actions. If people cannot afford to have children than you have to limit the number you have but not by aborting them but by making sure you don't get pregnant. Use birth control. We cannot afford to have all of these people on welfare. We have to stop illegal immigration and giving them welfare. We cannot raise taxes on the rich or capitol gains because than no one will invest in the stock market or create jobs for the middle class. We are in a big mess that started in 1999.

  • I'm sorry but if you start at the bottom then if you have nothing how is nothing going to help? Shouldn't you start at the top and use a trickle down effect?

  • it makes perfect sense to me.
you want to build on a strong foundation.
i believe when he speaks of building from the bottom up he is referring to the working middle class--they are 'the backbone' of america. strengthening them will make our entire nation strong.

  • Ask this ? then. How do you get to the top of something? Its very easy understand how building from the bottom up works. Everything needs to be built that way in order for them to function. lets put it this way. The less fortunate are holding back every penny they have just to survive and by for everyday needs, some dont even make enough to do that. What happens if the majority of people in the world can't afford to spend money on consumer products and the things they would like to have? Companys productions slows, therefore they have to cut back cost, a great part of which are firing employees. When that happens, you then have yet again less people spending money. So if you fix that, then im sure you can conclude what that would do right?

  • but could we have a middle class if we didn't support the small businesses and etc?
To build from the bottom up sounds more like what communist countries do? Make everyone equal but they seem to only hold people back or down? I don't know. This just doesn't make sense to me. Nothing this election makes sense to me though anymore. Sadly I feel betrayed by each candidate.

  • We've been trying the so called "trickle down effect" for decades now and look where we are. At some point if something isn't working you have to take a step back and figure out what the problem is.

This nation has always worked best when the "huddled masses" are empowered. Give them something to work for and there is no telling what they can accomplish.

  • The way to build from the bottom up, is for

1.) people at the bottom to take advantage of educational opportunities abound, then either work for a living or start their own business and employ those "less fortunate"

2.) give tax breaks to those who employ others. We need corporations to hire people--not go to other countries.

3.) use social welfare programs for their intended purpose, not as a lifestyle! Welfare wasn't designed to be the sole source of income for MULTIPLE was supposed to be a SHORT TERM means to keep a roof over your head, clothes on your back and food on the table!

4.) kick out the illegal aliens...the latest census bureau reports indicate the USA spend over $340 BILLION ANNUALLY on illegal aliens alone!!! Pump that money back in to our economy, and we wouldn't be in such dire straights.

  • correct however if those people cannot afford to kepp their business up and running, or cannot afford to be able to open up a new company in order to hire more people or expand their little mom and pop shop, then what is the point?

Answer by Anonymous at 3:23 PM on Oct. 27, 2008

  • That's why McCain's plan to reduce taxes on corporations makes sense. If corporate expense go up, guess who gets cut...the middle class worker! Corporations set up shop in other countries to lessen the financial burdens. Lowering their expense in the form of employment incentives, brings them back and allows them to hire people who in turn produce the things we need.

All of those GREEN jobs and government jobs Obama proposes....they do not generate anything!!! They are just jobs! If you don't produce something, you can't sell it to create wealth. If there is no wealth, then we become a third-world country....think about it!!! Where is the money going to come from to support everyone who doesn't want to work, cannot work, or needs a hand out?!
