  • Yes, a hematoma is a possibility. A hematoma is basically like a blood blister. They can be caused by shaking their head allot. If he is shaking his head, then he could have ear mites, or a yeast infection in his ears. Do his ears smell bad or look dirty? if so he needs meds. And if he has a hematoma, the vet can drain it. My dog had swollen ears before, but it was caused by hives. If it is hives, then they usually go away within day or two, but hives are usually all over. Not just on one part. Either way, if you're concerned, take the dog to a vet.

  • Maybe an infection from scratching. Does your dog have ear mites?

  • Exactly what RubyBlue said - there are a lot of reasons it could happen, and for most of them, a simple trip to the vet can fix it. :)
