If I put tap water in a bottle, is it now bottled water?

  • Pretty much, yes. It helps if you run it through filters that may or may not do anything, may or may not be clogged with muck.

    Most people think that "bottled water" is regulated. It's not. Most think it is purified in some way. It doesn't have to be and there are no regulations requiring the filters be maintained in any case. The only regulations regarding water is that what comes out of the tap must meet set guidelines. What happens to it after it leaves the tap isn't regulated at all.

  • There was actually a news expose on this... Water like Dasani is basically tap water in a bottle. If you buy "Drinking Water" .... you're paying money for what could be tap water. If you like "Spring Water" that is different. :) I guess it depends how good your tap water is.. ours is fine so I don't worry over it. We just use the filter on the fridge and call it good.
