What are some good books for a 3 year olds?

I'm looking for stocking stuffers and/or Christmas gift ideas for my 3 year old boy/girl twins, and I'd like books specifically for each of them that can be their own personal books.

My girl is ready for chapter books (to be read to her), but my boy is still into short books with lots of pictures. We have a lot of gender neutral books already, so some less neutral books might be nice. I think they'd also enjoy books about twins, but I haven't found too many of those.

Any suggestions?

  • Mo Willems books are awesome! We love the Elephant & Piggle ones by him (I have 5 year old boy/girl twins). My ds has several "How do Dinosaurs...." books by Yolen & Teague (i.e. How do Dinosaurs Clean their Rooms? How do Dinosaurs eat Their Food?" etc). My dd loves anything with princesses! Pinkalicious books (by Victoria Kann) are a big hit, and now you can get toys to go along with each of those series!!

  • I agree with Dr. Suess. My son (3) also loves the Pigeon series of books by Mo Willems as well as the books by Janet Stevens and Susan Stevens Crummel. He never tires of those.

  • My daughter loves The Paperbag Princess and Fancy Nancy books. For your son, I Love You Stinky Face, Where the Wild Things Are, and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No good, Very Bad Day.
