What are these nasty looking bits in my pot of brown rice?

It's the first time I've cooked brown rice, and I just checked on it simmering and theres white bits popping up and down while it's simmering. What are they? It looks like they could've come off the rice but it's brown so... and it looks mushy, wth?

  • Brown rice is only brown on the outside. Either there's a little foam, or the rice is overcooking with too much water and it's stuff from the inside of the rice "kernal". The kernals split open while cooking, especially if you overcook them. Or maybe you had bugs in it.
