Would a doll be wrong to give as a gift for a boy?

My son's b-day is in two weeks. We just spent an hour going over what he'd like. It's all not age appropriate (4) or things I know he'd never play with. So I just said out of the blue, what about a doll. He got all excited and said thats what he wants. But is it wrong?

  • My oldest had a baby doll for a while. And my youngest used to love wheeling his sister's doll stroller around (with his action figures in the seat.) I think it's great. He won't get "the wrong idea" or anything. I have heard, but don't have any source to site, that boys who care for baby dolls grow up to be more caring, involved fathers.

  • My boys have all had a baby doll. I don't see anything wrong with it. It teaches compassion and responsibility. How could those things be bad?

  • Get him a doll! No problem from my point of view. My cousin had a baby doll and he just loved him. My brother sometimes played with my baby dolls- they are both masculine men who are terrific dads.

  • I haven't actually bought a doll for my son, but he has taken one of his twin sister's dolls as his own. He puts his baby in the stroller and "hot rods" around the house just like Daddy used to push him. I've seen him playing with his tools with one hand and giving his baby a bottle with the other hand, and I think it is great. I don't think it's girly at all either; he is doing the same things with the baby doll that his daddy has done for him. He's practicing being a good father and a real man.  So, I think a doll is a great gift for a young boy, but you may find that some people won't like it.

  • Of course you should get him a doll if he wants one. And I think people who act like there's something wrong with boys playing with baby dolls are just stupid. What, do they think it'll make the boys "go gay?"

  • No its not wrong. My bothers used to have boy cabbage patch dolls. I bet you could find him a boy doll.

  • No, I don't see anything wrong with. All of my boy cousins played with dolls at some point in their lives.
