  • Your water doesn't typically break until you are well into active labor and have been having contractions for quite a while.

  • Two hours. There wasn't anything before it broke to indicate that labor would be starting that day.

  • 13 hours later with pitocin (only because I had an active vaginal infection). Without pitocin and not in active labor, it can take days or weeks.

  • Over a week (with one labor).

And it broke when the baby was already part-way out (with another labor).

  • the doctor broke my water for me. I was dilated to an eight and contracting every two minutes when she did.
My second I was contracting ever minute dilated to a ten and pushing the baby out and it still didn't break, so the doctor broke it again.

  • My water broke on its own with both of my kids. I didn't start contracting for an hour or two, but I went to the hospital immediately anyway. I was given pitocin both times to help get my contractions stronger and more regular.
