What age did your daughter develop?

My daughter was 9 when she started developing and was 11 when she started her period. Do you feel things are starting earlier for these kids

  • yes, many girls are starting earlier. however, not mine. she started about 2 years ago and is 13, but has not yet gotten her period, but I think it's VERY close. some seems to be genetic, other reasons seem to be weight. heavier girls seem to start earlier I've heard. i've heard recently of a few girls getting their period around 8 or 9....can you imagine? how do you prepare such a young child for that?

  • My sister started at age nine (she's now 65), so I don't think it's just something new. I think it's just that there's a big variation when girls start. I think we talk mor about these things than we did years ago.

  • Most girls start at around the same time as their parents. But I do beleive kids are developing and starting earlier and earlier. Some kids have already started at age 9 and thats just too young. My children are 11 and 13 and are deveoped physically but havent started yet.

  • I don't know about it happening earlier now, since I'm 19.. But I started developing around 10 & started at about 12 1/2. Heavier girls do tend to start earlier, and most girls start pretty close to the same time their mother did.

  • My DD started to develop around 8. She is not a larger girl, in fact, until she started to hit puberty she was tiny. She started her period about 6 months ago at 10.5. I didn't get mine until I was 12.5 and I was definitely heavier than she was/is. It really shocked us because was always this skinny little thing. Now, at 11, she is 5' tall and had a gorgeously proportioned body and is about 86 lbs.

  • Well I don't have a daughter, but I developed quite quickly. I was 5'11'' at the age of 10. Had to wear a bra since 10. Shaved since 11. Got period at 11. Pubic hair came at age 7-8.

  • My daughter was 10 when she started her period and 11 when she "blossomed" It seemed like it happened over night. It's like I woke up one morning and was SHOCKED!
I developed very early, too. I am 49.
    I wouldn't worry.
    Take care!
