  • My DS has been throwing tantrums since before he turned one, but they're not usually the manipulative type of tantrums (or they've only recently become that type too). They are usually meltdowns or emotional floods, and I can't just ignore those to make him stop like the other type because he can't seem to calm himself down. He will go on for 45 minutes or more at times and he's so intense that I'm afraid he's going to hurt himself thrashing around--sometimes he'll accept comforting or help calming down, sometimes not. I usually just have to ride it out, and keep trying to calm him down. Those are the hardest in my opinion, but the manipulative ones can usually be handled by ignoring them, time outs, or distraction depending on the circumstances. It has improved some since he talks more now, but when he's flooded he still can't get the words to tell me what's wrong. I'm just hope it will get better soon too! Good luck!

  • I got lucky. My DD wasn't so terrible when she was two. Now three...she has thrown a few temper tantrums so far, but they're very rare.

  • It wasn't terrible 2's I had to survive, it was terrible 3's! And honestly, I'm still not sure how I survived it. Maybe because I had lots of help and support from my husband and friends.
