Fun halloween traditions in your family?

We dont do evil halloween, our kids are still fairly young for that (2 1/2 and 1 1/2) so we make things fun, not evil.
We go pick out pumpkins, make cookies and candy apples, go trick or treating and eat "dinner in a pumpkin"
whats some of yours?

  • we always say we want to do a costume contest im not sure why we never do we have so many people and especially kids in our family circle i think they would have fun with it! then it gets the adults to try to dress up and not just show up at the halloween party for the food lol and then the kids actually want to do really creative costume ideas not just the most popular store bought ones

  • we have never done an evil twist on Halloween. The kids G'pa used to grow pumpkins to give to the entire neighborhood but when he past away we went to a pumpkin patch to pick out pumpkins and have a craving party. We also gather colored leaves from the woods on the same day to decorated the front doorway. The kids would make a scare crow with their old clothes and sit out by the front door along with anything else they wanted to make it fallish, but not scary. Because we want the little ones who trick not to be scared. My children are pretty much grown and they do this at their own homes. Its not so much what we did as a tradition as much as it was "we did it together".

  • Till my kids hit middle school, we went to a local farm for a hay ride out to the corn field maze. It was a little itchy at times, but lots of fun. Leaving the farmer's market today, I drove by the good-ole corn field. It made me feel a little nostalgic.
