What to say when someone miscarries?

I always feel at a loss for words.

  • I know you wished you could help your friend but nothing will ever take the pain away. All you can do is be there for her and if she needs time to herself then let her have it. I've had 4 miscarriages and my heart still breaks over them.

  • I usually just say I'm sorry and hug them... Beyond that, there isn't anything to say...

  • Just be there for them. I have suffered a miscarriage, and what helped me most s just knowing that someone is there if I need them.

  • I dont think there is anything you really can say... just be there and listen to her.

  • I'm so sorry. It is all you can say. And I know, it never is enough.

  • You do help by caring. Call and ask if there is anything you can do. Invite her to lunch. Take her flowers if she likes them. You are a kind soul.

  • Console them then allow them to move on. It isn't an easy thing to deal with but letting people dwell on pain can be worse. Acknowledging the loss then assisting them to move past their grief is the best thing.

  • That is what I usually say too, it just doesn't seem like enough... :(

  • It's just so sad, and there is nothing I can do to help, or take the pain away :( I feel so useless.
