  • New England style is a cream based soup.
Manhattan is a tomato based soup.
Just to clarify: Campbell's does make a Manhattan Clam Chowder-not that that is saying much, but when ya gotta eat, ya gotta eat. .

  • New England Clam Chowder is cream based. It's the white stuff.
Manhattan Clam Chowder is tomato based, it's the red stuff.

I prefer the Cream based chowders. :) You can have chowders and not have clams! I can make a killer Scallop and Halibut Chowder.

To be honest, I have never heard of "boston" clam chowder. I'll have to go check that out.

  • And I don't particularly like either. Not a clam person myself, though my husband loves it.

  • Campbell's Soup is a poor representative of the soups out there. Most of them don't even taste like the real thing.

  • I'm aware, but they don't make a version of many of the delicious soups out there. Only main stream. They leave a lot to be desired.

  • It's Boston Clam Chowder and New England Clam Chowder -

New england clam chowder is just a little thicker it is made with a roux, and Boston clam chowder is not.
