  • I have a black and toile kitchen--curtains, cookie jars, cork board, decorative pot holders, centerpiece planter, etc! Same "Country Life" pattern, too! :o)

I painted my walls tan, the moulding/trim and doors leading in and out of the kitchen white, and just finished painting my cabinets black! To give it a more "earthy" and rustic feel, I have a a rustic brown farm style dinette table, and a number of dark stained rustic willow baskets, filled with natural looking silk green hydrangeas with burgundy pip berry accents.

I felt the natural greens and rustic brown tones "softened" the "harshness" of black and white--added some color, but kept the same "muted" effect.

SO, you could do the same, with pale to medium green braided area rugs, throw, pillows and silk flowers/or green plants and dark wood/rustic furniture!

  • My DIL used a very similar black and white toile fabric in one of her bedrooms and put red accents with it. So she had red throw pillows, a small oval rug at each side of the bed, and red lamp shades. You could do that with any color really. Dark green, a deep blue, etc.
