  • We started with one meal (cereal) at 4 months, by 6 months she was eating 3 meals a day. You just add a meal as your baby's appetite grows.

  • When they show they would like more food or they need more food to keep them satisfied. With both of my children three meals of solid food a day didn't become neccisary until they were 11-12 months old.

  • I would say go by how much your baby eats in one meal, and how many bottles of formula or times you nurse a day. Which would you be able to replace with a meal and it be best for the child.

  • When they want to. For the first year, primary nutrition should come from breastmilk or formula; that first, followed by solids as wanted. When baby wants solids 3 times a day, that's when they get it.

My first started off with one solid meal around 5 months, and that not every day. It gradually increased until he was eating at least 3 solid meals consistently, I'd say at about 1 year. My second didn't start solids until 7.5 months, went straight to table foods. That again wasn't a daily occurrence at first, and she progressed a bit more quickly to 3 or more solid meals a day by about 13 or 14 months.

  • Mine were all eating 3 meals/day by 7-8 months. Not huge meals, but lined up with our family's eating times so they could sit in their highchair and "join" the conversation at the table.

  • I think my son was on 3 meals a day by the time he was 1. I really can't remember. My daugther is 8 months old, and she's only on 2 meals of solids. We started her at 6 months with getting solids at dinner. Then around 7 months I added breakfast. I'll probalby wait until she's 9 or 10 months to add lunch. She still nurses quite a bit, and she she may snack throughout the day. Other than breakfast and dinner, I'm not very consistent with snacks and such yet.

  • Around a year, when they actually NEED 3 solid meals a day since they aren't getting all the formula or breastmilk anymore. There's not reason to put an infant on 3 solid meals a day before a year old - solids are only for practice prior to that first birthday.
