Is carbonation in drinks bad for you?

  • Carbonation is NOT bad for you! Most CO2 in beverages doesn't reach the digestive tract. The amount that does is quickly absorbed. In the process, it also enhances the absorption of the liquid that contains it, which causes the gastrointestinal tract to empty at a faster than usual rate. This helps to account for the long-time belief, recorded as early as 1914, that carbonation can promote digestion and ease nausea. Think: ALKA SELTZER!!

  • I don't know, but I think it's disgusting anyway. I once heard that if you soak a rusted nail in a cup of coke it will clean it lol. I don't know if that's true or not but if it is I would assume it has to do with the carbonation, which in that case is probably not good for your intestines.

  • no its the sugar-y syrup that they put in the drinks to make them "taste good" thats whats bad for you, sparkling water has carbonation and its healthy for you...
