This is going to sound really horrid of me, so let me say up front, I'm sorry...

But what is the PC term for "midget" or "little person?"

I've only ever met one "little person" and that was a one time thing, so I don't have anyone "official" to ask. I'm sure midget isn't a term most of them like, but little person sounds offensive as well... So what is the "proper" term?

  • Little person. Midget is very much NOT okay.

The term can be either dwarf or midget. It is not a derrogatory or improper term or word. Midget has been used as an alternate to Dwarf. Unless you have heard a new word, I would go with midget.

  • Someone in our town put on her yahoo profile that she is a dwarf. So I am going to say that dwarf might be the more proper term. I didn't know what word to use in front of or with her either...till now.

  • As really totally horrible as it sounds, I believe the proper term is dwarf.

  • Dwarf means "small". How bad can that be?

  • I've watched that show with the dwarf couple. I can't remember what it's called right now, but they refer to themselves as "little people"

  • I believe that the most PC term for anyone is their name, start by asking that first, then ask how they like to be addressed, :)

  • Midget is deffinatly NOT PC Kerp. Most of them prefer little person, person of short stature, or dwarf. I agree with kiwi goddess though, I would use their name if you are referring to someone.

  • little person usually. Dwarf would probably be ok since dwarfism is usually the medical condition.
