Any idea's on helping a baby learn to crawl?

We have tried everything, crawling in front of her, showing her toys to get her to try to come to us. Lots of tummy time. She has the stance down.. just doesn't try to move. she will be 9m on tuesday

  • She'll go when she is ready! Just be patient. Some kids just take their time. My DD didn't budge until she was 11 months. I thought she'd never crawl LOL! She is now 15 months and I'm chasing her as she runs across the yard!

  • Not all babies crawl. My second one skipped straight to walking.

  • I doubt she is sad. She is probably just more of an observer, and is really studying the other kids.

  • You can't teach babies how to walk or crawl. Crawling is something they do or don't do. It's not a milestone; some babies never crawl. If she WANTED to get from point A to point B she'd find a way even if that meant wiggling a little at a time. Babies are born with the motivation to move, there is nothing you need to do except provide opportunity to explore different types of floor and ground (wood, tile, grass, dirt, mulch, sand, carpet -- all require a different mode of locomotion).

  • I've heard that some babies don't crawl, they learn to pull up on things and then just go straight to walking.

  • I was worried about my baby too. Keyword: WAS. He has always crawled backwards, which brought him nothing but frustration. I tried everything to encourage him to move forward. I placed toys in front of him, slightly far or very close, putting his feet against a wall while on his tummy, I got on the floor with him and showed him how.....He wouldn't even stretch for his toys. One day he just decided that he wanted to stretch for his toys. He's scooting across the room, granted not crawling yet but I'm just happy that he's happy. He's 9 months old officially tomorrow night. Hope this helps. I heard the normal crawling range was between 6-10 months, so I wouldn't panic until 10 myself.

P.S. My baby was a chunky baby to begin with so I knew he would be crawling a little later than the others.
