I've heard that you can not receive food stamps in the state of Illinois if you are engaged or married. Is this true? I know they go by your income but are you automatically canceled out if you are married?

  • I'm not sure, but that wouldn't make much sense to me. Curious to see the answer!
I don't see how the state could "prove" engagement either.

  • Um, no! I'm married and have 3 kids and I get them. They do count both your incomes, so whoever said that might have just figured that once you get married you won't be eligible because of too much income.
