  • I started with toy pickup at 2, and its gradually gotten harder with more jobs since then based on what they're capable of physically.

  • You can assign chores at very young ages - simple things like picking toys and clothes.

  • They can start helping by the time they are 2, and they can have set daily chores as soon as they are capable of doing them. My 3 year olds set the table, sweep up around their chairs, pick up toys, and help fold some laundry. At this point I do still have to mention the tasks, but they can do them just fine.

  • My son is 2, and he's been "helping" with laundry (he throws stuff in the washer and dryer, pushes the buttons, hands me clothes to fold, etc), picking up his toys (with help), putting his dirty dishes in the sink and a few other small things for awhile now. I say as soon as they are physically capable, it's a great lesson.

  • As soon as they can toddle around after you they can help with chores.  By 3 my kids had their own chores they were expected to complete with minimal help from me.

  • When my son was 2 we had him clean his own room. As he got older we have given him other things like putting away the silver wear (except the knifes) and putting away his own clothes.

  • I would say at the age of have to start teaching kids at an early age about responsibilites...

Answer by tanya120 at 6:23 PM on Oct. 18, 2010

  • My 3 year old is already responsible for his toys (his 9 yo brother now), they put their dishes in the sink when they're done. When my 3 yo is older he will get more responsibility. My 9 yo is special needs so I was lenient (to the point of spoiling him) in the early years, but he's learning! lol
