  • Right away! I started laying my son on his tummy for just 5-10 minutes at a time when he was 1 week old. By 1 month he was already strong for his age and was happy doing tummy time for 10-15 minutes at a time. By 2 months he could hold his head for long periods. Waiting till 3 months is way too long to wait. I hear from alot of moms with babies my sons age who say that their baby cant hold their head at 3-4 months because the moms never had their babies doing tummy time. My son would cry when he was younger but I just kept doing it a few times a day. At 5 months he loves playing on the floor on his tummy and can roll both ways and sit up by himself. My pedi says he is strong. My sister has a baby the same age as my son, he never does tummy time because she picks him up right away when he wimpers. You wouldnt believe the developmental differences between the 2 of them.

  • We started tummy time the day after we came home from the hospital, so day 4. The sooner they start building muscle tone, the sooner they will develop their gross motor skills.
