  • Do what seems natural to your child. Get together with other Moms and kids for the socialization aspect. Go to all the freebies you can find- library, bookstores, toy stores, craft stores all have free classes. As far for what to have at home BOOKS of all kinds, puzzles, board games and some flash cards. Enjoy learning, go on long walks and take pictures- use the pictures later for flash cards to re-tell the adventure and recreate a new one. One of my favorite "learning" websites is www.starfall.com 10 or 15 minutes a day is all you need-then get out and have some fun while you learn!

  • 2.5 hours three times a week is what my kids did before kindergarden. You can google what a kid needs to know before kindergarden

  • If you're going to work independently with your child, it won't require much time. Preschool is about learning through play and having fun. We are homeschoolers and when my son was preschool age, we sang and read a lot, played with all of LeapFrog's phonics toys, learned letter sounds on starfall.com, and did tons of fun arts & crafts!

  • Do you have any Magnet Schools in your area?? FInd out because they are FREE!!! They are lottery based. SO your child may not get in but it is TOTALLY worth a shot! if not read, read, read. Let them play with you and independantly. Just have many things that they can explore with on their own...fresh air and exercise. All that traditional stuff like memorizing letters, knowing all the colors, blindly counting to infinity actually have shown to have very little impact on future academics. It's just that it's tradition and it's all many people know. You want aplace full of literacy and freedom for your child explore. Never use a coloring book or make a model of an art piece for chidlren. This deters creativity. Encourage your child to talk to you and other kids in a mom's group to helpeach other and develop solutions to things. Using dittos and pre-cut out shapes are a waste of time.
