Another question if you rent a home or duplex.

Do they have a key to your rental property so they can come unannounced and enter if they need/want to?

  • Yes, most of the time that is a requirement. If you change the locks or add a dead bolt, they have to have a key. This is needed for emergency purposes.

  • Owners can have a key for emergency purposes but it is not very common, and a lot of times tenants change the locks anyway when they move in., but they have to give you at least a 12 hour notice before entering your home.

  • whom ever is the home owner or management has a key but they must give 24 hour notice by law to enter and if they do you call them on it telling them you are aware of the laws and will contact a lawyer next time it happens
