Another question if you rent a home or duplex.

Do they have a key to your rental property so they can come unannounced and enter if they need/want to?

I asked this last night, but can't find my question anywhere.

  • My landlord never had a key. And they do NOT have the right to enter without your permission, whether it is their property or not. They should not enter without permission if you are home or if you are not home. If you lose the key, you must buy new locks.

  • I live on campus and rent an apartment (not a dorm). They do have a key, but they have to let me know when they are coming. What I HATE is that they come once a week to "inspect". Check about renter's rights. As for me, I am getting out of here as soon as I can.

  • They have a key but they usually let us know if they stop by. I doubt they would ever stop by unannounced though.

  • My manager does have a key but they arent allowed to enter unannounced. they have to give 1 weeks notice, unless I have to ask them to fix something, which they never do.

  • They have a key, but they call first if they are going to come by. They came by when i was not home last week to repair the attick fan. We have nothing of value & nothing to hide, so i really don't care. I really like our landlord, she is very cool.

  • I'm not sure if he has one, but I don't think they're supposed to come by unless you're notified. Our landlord stops by now and then to check in (there are repairs he's having to have done), but he always stands in the doorway like it really is our house, lol. Always knocks and tells me whatever he needs to do, even if its just outside. He's really nice, always asks how we're doing and how we're liking it (we've only lived here a few months). A lot better than our old landlord who used to come in and turn off things or open the blinds, etc....

  • I'm leasing to own, my landlord was giving us both copies but I asked her to keep one for emergencies since she lives across the street. She has never come in on her own or unannounced. But once when hubby was locked out she was able to let him in.
