Purists prefer Patek Philippe, says Vanessa Herrera, deputy director for Sotheby’s Asia watch department. Every time the auction house has a Patek in its lot, it is flagged as an auction highlight. For the Oct. 6 Sotheby’s watch auction, a Patek Philippe platinum 5078P sold for 2.42 million Hong Kong dollars (US$312,000). It was “a most sought-after piece,” says Ms. Herrera.

    Is it worth the price tag? (according to my BIL the watch enthusiast... lol but who couldnt' afford one in his wildest dreams.. lol) Yes if you are a watch enthusiast who can afford the finest in quality.. Those watches are all hand made, each and every little gear and piece, are made with finest of Geneva steele, all those that work for them in making these watches are considered to be "masters" in the area of micromechanical engineering, in a family owned and ran manufacturer in Sweden. They
    are the finest of the finest when it comes to artisans in this area.
