food drive ideas

I need food ideas for a food drive. I have 3 kids that all go to school and next week they are doing spirit week like pjs day, sports team day and yellow day,etc and if dress you need to bring in item for food drive. If they dress all week that is 15 items. What ideas do food banks need. and not to much money with 15 items. Any help would be great.

  • usually food drives ask for non-perishable items that are canned or boxed (no glass- in case of breakage). I usually donate a variety of items like canned soup, broth, jello boxes, ramen noodles, box potatoes, mac & cheese, spaghetti noodles, canned fruit, canned veggies, canned meat (tuna, chicken, ham), cereal, pop-tarts, oatmeal, sometimes baking items like cake, cookie, brownie, biscuit mixes, frosting tubs, sometimes condiments like canned gravy, dressing, mayo, ketchup, mustard.....

  • You can totally get some cheap canned goods- i would think any kinds of vegtables, mac and cheese, noodles, cake mixes, pancake mixes, canned fruit.....most stores have 10/$10 with all that stuff, even cheaper.

  • I usually donate canned items. Its usually non -perishables that they are asking for. That will keep the cost down for you as well with 15 items. We have also went to the dollar store and got toothpaste and bars of soap.

  • Hearty can goods, like soup, fruit, veggies, and pasta. Do not bother with baking items or condiements because too many people need really food and those this are really extras.

  • Pasta & canned tomatoes & shaker cans of parmesan cheese makes a meal. Barilla also makes a bagged dried tortellini that we love.
