is a puzzle a bad gift idea?

i bought my nephew a puzzle today for a bday present. its a nice wooden puzzle that is a ABC train. he is turning 2. He may not be interested in it right away but i thought it would be good for when he is ready. My mil seems to think its a bad gift idea and his mother will turn her nose at it just because he isnt ready for it...but i think its cute and will be nice for when he is ready. what do you think?

  • Puzzles are fun. I'm sure he will get great use of it when he is ready, but even at his age, he might be interested in trying to fit the pieces together even if they don't match.

  • Sounds like a nice gift to me too. Better something for him to grow into than something he's already too old for.

  • I love puzzles as gifts. He can use it at 2. A child can learn manual dexterity, sizes, shapes, colors, etc. I had them, my cousins all had them, and so did my kids, and their kids, and now, our grandchildren.
