what color frosting for iron man cupcakes?

My sons birthday is iron man.. so for frosting I was thinking red frosting with gold accents?? but how do I make gold with regular food coloring? HELP!

  • Hmm. I would let the bakery handle it because I'm pretty sure there is no wa to get gold out of regular food coloring. Not sparkly gold.

  • Red frosting with gold accents sounds perfect. You might have to buy the already made tubes of colored icing to get gold...although I'm not even sure they have GOLD. Good luck!

  • If you made a brilliant yellow, you might get a good approximation, but gold will require more than regular food coloring. Check out a store with a cake decorating section (I'm thinking something like Michael's). Good luck!

  • I just did a quick search - looks like the material you should be looking for is called Lustre Dust and it should be mixed into fondant icing.

  • There is gold cupcake spray at Michaels in the cake section, I'm pretty sure. Or at least those gold flake type sprinkles or dust. We did silver for one of my daughters birthdays and I did royal icing butterflies with silver luster dust and it looked awesome. I'd just check Michaels for ideas.
