  • No radiation comes from computers, whoever told you that needs to her their mouth and try not to scare you. Like you don't have enough to worry about as it is.

  • I have a colleague who is pregnant and who types at a computer. How much radiation does her baby receive at a typical computer? Is there a lead shield that she could wear? Like an apron?
Regulations of the US Department of Health and Human Services require manufacturers to test computer monitor emissions for radiation and to label them attesting to the fact that they have been found to meet the standards of Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations. You should be able to find this label on the rear of the computer monitor or the computer processor. Health studies of pregnant women who work with VDTs have not found harmful effects on the women or on their children. Heavy lead aprons or other shields are not considered necessary for units that meet the x-ray emission standards of 21 CFR. Such shields may actually be counterproductive from an ergonomic point of view.

  • It's big time bull. Computers are safe, TV's are safe, microwaves are safe as long as they are not damaged.

You have to love everyone who feels the need to fill pregnant women's heads with bull and old wives tales.

  • Are you kidding me!!! Make sure you get your information from a reliable source. You have enough to worry about without having a friend who doesn't know what they are talking about telling you scary things.

  • Actually, it once was true. Back in the day when you used to have those mammoth monitors there was the potential of radiation. However, now they have more technology in place and the newer monitors do not give off radiation. Older models of anything need to be taken into consideration - like microwaves. If they are within the last 10 years or so, they should be fine.

  • yeah microwaves and radios give off radiation when standing in front of them, yes it is bad

  • I would be more concerned with you sitting for 9 hours a day. I think the computer will be fine, computers go through a lot of testings.
