What kind of sides go with grilling for a kid's birthday party?

Hi! My son's 3rd birthday party is this Saturday and we are grilling hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken. I ususally do sides such as baked beans, potato salad, pasta salad & deviled eggs. Those are still great, but looking for something DIFFERENT, FUN, EASY & KID-FRIENDLY (Adult too)!!! Please give me ANY and ALL ideas!!! Thanks Mamas!!!

  • Batter up some sweet potatoes and fry them. Most kids will think they are regular fries, and it's a great way to get them to try something new!

  • I would lean more towards finger foods than traditional sides. Veggie platter, fruit platter, chips, etc along with the devilled eggs.

  • Do a variation on your typical pasta salad...do an italian style pasta salad and add in some yellow squash and zucchini...also how about roasted corn on the cob...you can cook it right on the grill.

  • Try some carrots, cucumbers, celery, broccoli, etc. with a sour-cream based ranch dip. The roasted corn on the cob idea sounds good too! I like to make what I call "Tater Chips". I slice a potato and then I dip it in melted butter. Then, I lay them on a baking sheet, sprinkle them with parmesan cheese, garlic salt, and parsley. I cook them at 325 until they are browned, usually about 20 minutes. They are always a big hit! :) Have fun!
