How old is to old to suck your thumb/finger or a binky (pacifier)?

My six yr. stopped sucking his index finger this yr.

  • My daughter was 6 when she stopped sucking her thumb it was too old but as the dr said he told me she would stop when she was ready and he did his until he was the age of about 13

  • age 1, to 2 yrs old is the best time to stop sucking your thumb. After that, you risk affecting the development of teeth, and causing teeth to grow outward. Congrats on him stopping sucking his thumb.

  • My cousin is almost twenty and she still sucks on her middle and index finger when falling asleep. That is definitely too old.

    I'm not really sure how old is "too old." My daughter has never sucked on her fingers/thumb but she does suck on her shirt. That's how she falls asleep every night. I would love to get her out of that soon.

  • IMO, I think 6 would be my cut off. LOL I know my SO sucked his thumb until 6 or 7.
