What time do you put your 4 year old to bed?

I put my DD to bed around 8 pm. Some people tell me that's early. She also goes to school 2 days a week and I'm just trying to make sure she's getting the sleep that she needs.

  • Mine will be 4 in May but her bedtime is 9. If I would get home from work before 545-6pm, it would be 830 but time spent with her is more important since she usually naps once she gets to daycare.

  • 8 or 8:30. 4 year olds need between 10 and 12 hours of sleep a day.

  • My 3 and 5 year olds are in bed by 7.30. Having 6 kids mean we seriously have to stagger the bedtimes. We usually manage to have all 6 upstairs in their rooms by 8.30 pm, then its our quality time together.

  • It doesn't sound early to me. But bedtime should be based on how many hours are needed to feel good the next day. When my dd was younger (can't remember exactly what age, she's 21 now) I know that there was a time that she went to bed at 7pm because otherwise she was cranky the next day. And as time went on we would adjust it accordingly. Like I said she's 21 now, lives on her own and goes to bed between 9-10 because she says she needs her sleep or she feel tired.

  • Both my 1 year old and 4 year old go to bed about 8-8:30. Occasionally my big boy stays up later with me to watch a movie or read a story or something. They used to go to bed later, but i'm pregnant with #3 and *I* need my sleep! Lol!
