Wanna see a 1 BILLION dollar waste?

The Department of Homeland Security is backing off what was to have been a multibillion-dollar effort to build an "invisible fence" that was meant to catch drug and human traffickers with cameras, vibration sensors and other high-tech devices.

Of the projected 2,000-mile impenetrable wall of technology that the project was supposed to supply, only about 53 miles of unreliable monitoring systems were built. And the price tag for that work, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times, was in excess of a cool $1 billion.

Homeland Security is not renewing its contract with Boeing, the main contractor on the project, saying the technology hasn't yet been perfected for the high-quality monitoring that comprehensive guarding of the border requires.

  • My view.

Yep waste.. Just like the contract Boeing recieved to build planes that will never be used, aren't needed and really aren't even wanted. But they got the contract anyway.

Boeing gets lots of contracts like this... Things that make you go hmmmmm, in regards to how our government (Regardless of what Party is in control of Congress or who is seated in the President's chair) waste money.. Gives out crony contracts.. Ect..

It is not regulated to 1 administration or 1 party.. It's pointless GOVERNMENT waste, and our government as a whole is made of up all sorts of people, will all sorts of ideologies, etc.. Even if 100 share the same party name, they do not all have the same views and ideologies in regards every single little thing. So it is not a party issue in my eyes, it's a overall badly ran Government issue.

  • Yup... Fence to Nowhere... But hell, the current administration has no plans to date to enforce the border in the near future, so why spend the money, right?

Nope.. So this is another Bushism? Last I checked there is a NEW administration in office and we need to focus on what THEY are doing to protect our borders....Aren't we talking about today and future border security? Change you can believe in? Or another Bushism? Which it is?

  • Spending money to stop criminal activity and save lives is DEFINITELY a waste! (sarcasm)  However, money spent on drunken gay sex habits, Nancy's marsh rodents and coked out monkeys is WELL SPENT! NOT!!!  Check out all the "wasted" links, truly DISGUSTING!!!

  • We need the 22's and C-17's right now..... So, I have no problem with them.. The 22's replaced the F-15's... Do you know how old the 15's were/are? 22's are a Lockheed design.

  • I'm not surprised. Are you, really? This administration has no intention of defending our southern border.
