Do you celebrate international holidays with your kids?

We love to celebrate holidays from other countries and sample the special foods that go with those holidays.

  • I try to celebrate EVERYTHING - I just wish I could give up Christmas!
Christmas is nothing but stress, I'd like to vote Christmas off this island for good!
Maybe I could give it up for lent!

Halloween is my favorite because you can be whoever you want for one day! I don't do the dark scary side, I like the fun bright side.
I love the Jewish holidays - they are all about food and usually last for a week!
I am going to have to look into this Diwali - is there food involved? lol

  • Is Diwali an Indian holiday or is it tied to a religion? And no personally we don't celebrate holidays other than the usual - Christmas, Thanksgiving (Canadian), Canada Day, Easter (secular with the Easter Bunny), etc.

  • We don't, but it sounds like a neat tradition. Helps broaden your children's knowledge and acceptance of others. :)

  • Diwali is tied to the Hindu religion. Most Hindus are vegetarians so it will give us a chance to try something new. We have found a Diwali festival at a nearby college and the entrance fee includes a full Indian dinner. I can't wait!
