What are your first thoughts?

Someone tells you their daughter's name is Belladonna, Llewellyn, Isis, Hecate, Astarte, etc., what's the first thought that goes through your head? Why?

Same question could be asked about Mary, Catherine, Elizabeth, Esther, Hannah, etc.

  • I don't think it is odd to name a child any of those names. In fact I would rather name my child an exotic/"odd" name then one that is on the top 10 list for that year. When I call my child's name I only want my child to respond. Not five or six of their playmates or classmates.

  • My first thought would be, "Wow, those are some very unique names. Very pretty, but the poor child is going to have to deal with so many people mispronouncing his/her name and misspelling."  I know how annoying that can get.

  • Well the first thought I get from those names are...that their parents are wiccan/pagan, into egyptian names, or very free spirited people.

  • I have to go with zbee they are very odd names. I understand where they come from but do not like them. I do not think that the Biblical names are necessarily immediately related to their origin any more. Although I have to admit I am not quite sure where Catherine fits in with the Biblical names. Yes I know that nuns sometimes take that as one of their names but why? I am guessing she is a Saint or something like that. Holy cow anyways I think this mean I need to go back to bed because I make no sense what-so-ever.
