  • I'd hire my SIL to be my personal assistant in a New York minute. The woman is insanely organized but not a bitch about it, she's very inspiring, competent, cool and fun. I wish I could hire her, if I did I bet my life would get a whole lot better.

  • Never, she can't keep her own life straight, she would only complicate mine.

  • Family and business don't go well together. You'll end up regretting it. You will find out from your mom or other family members all the things she thinks you don't do right. I would never hire a family member, what do you think will happen if you ever have to fire her? Or just lay her off because times get tough? The whole family will hate you suddenly. I just think it's a bad idea.

  • Only if 1. you get along really well, 2. she's qualified and 3. you have a contract and treat her no different than any other employee.

  • Yes, but only if she wasn't my SIL--she is very competent and organized, and I would be lucky to have her as an employee/assistant. BUT my husband actually worked for her husband (his brother) for several years and it was a nightmare. I also grew up with a family business--even bigger nightmare so I don't believe in mixing family and work anymore.
