  • Hardwoods are harder than pine. Pine is a soft tree. Oak, Maple, Hickory are really hard woods.

  • Oak, which is a hardwood, is a much more durable wood. Not to mention, prettier for a girl. Pine is a softer wood.

  • Hardwood is a category, not a variety. It includes various durable woods from trees that lose their leaves annually like walnut, oak, mahogany, teak, maple, and cherry. Softwoods come from trees that keep their leaves year-round. Pine is soft, and usually less expensive since it's less durable. If you want it to last a long time, go with one of the hardwoods.
