did the Brewery go too far with its labels, being insensitive to women, pagans, and witches, or was the Lost Abbey label completely blown out of proportion causing this “Brewhaha?”

Lost Abbey Witch's Wit Ale is a limited-edition pale ale. Unfortunately for the brewery, it was not what is in the bottle that has caused a stir, but what is on the outside, which will lead to a change in the label.

“We have been accused of inspiring violence against women, and we have been compared to the violence in Darfur,” said Sage Osterfeld, a spokesman for Port Brewing, which owns Lost Abbey. “It has run the gamut from people saying politely, ‘This is offensive to pagans,’ to people saying we are responsible for all that is wrong in the world.”

  • There's the picture of the label...I have to say, if there was a beer with a label of Jesus hanging on a cross, it would piss me off. If you were a witch, would you want to see a picture of someone of your religion burning at the stake? No, I think not.

    It IS offensive to Pagans.

  • I think anyone using a picture of ANYONE being burned at stake being used as a label is innapropriate. It is pretty violent looking.
