What are some causes of a weepy eye in a newborn(5 days old)?

My newborn son is about 5 days old...I'd noticed about midway through the day his left eye had begun to weep and goop up a bit, reddening around the edges of his eyelids...I'm curious to know if anyone might have a good idea about the cause of said'd be greatly appreciated

  • Blocked tear duct, maybe? If that what it is, it often clears up on it own, but be sure to mention it to your pediatrician in case it's something else. We used a soft, damp cotton ball to gently clean the eyelid area, and it eventually went away on it's own.

  • blocked tear duct. You should clean it with a warm damp cloth and massage the inside corner of the eye several times a day. If it doesn't seem to get better you need to talk to his pediatrician.

  • yes, clogged duct. Squirt breast milk in it several times a day and wipe with a warm wash cloth.
