Does anyone else find it funny that "Google" is now a verb when talking about searching online?

I do. I use it at least once a day, lol.

  • I think it's absolutely brilliant. I feel that it's one of the things that has contributed to Google's great success--the fact that they chose a name that can be used as a verb as well. I know Bing has tried to copy that sort of name (they really, really want people to start "binging it") but it just doesn't seem to be catching on like the name Google.

  • To me it sounds dirty...I seriously giggle every time I here 'you can google it'.
I even crack up when they did it in Twilight.
It's not all that odd though, really. We use name brand words to describe generic items frequently: Most people call tissue 'Kleenex'. Sucking can be called 'Hoovering' and in the UK 'Hoover' is vacuum, etc.

  • It doesn't bother me but my husband hates using that term. Any noun turned verb bugs him.
