How to fill chairs for a focus group study?

At work, I coordinated a focus group study. I had one initial email blast, then two reminder follow-ups by email. I even followed up again with typed paper invitations. I order enough food for 40 people. But only two showed up on their own. I had three speakers. I actually had to entice two young men (athletic types) who had no problem eating the pizza and cookies.

When something is not manditory (being I cannot force people to attend) and food is not enough to get people to come, how else can I get people who are invited to actually show?

Thanks

  • I used to do focus groups in the 90's and got paid between 10 and 100 per session.

  • Free t-shirts? If food doesn't do it, maybe you could offer that too!

  • Unfortunately, it's hard to get anyone to do anything for nothing. Everyone wants something in return.
