2 Bumps

I have been trying to put dd to bed for 2 hours and i think she just swallowed a penny.

I'm so irritated right now...2 hours and she still won't go to sleep! dh went in there a few minutes ago and thought he saw her chewing something, he asked her what it was and she said 'penny'. he told her to get it out of her mouth, he went to swipe it out and nothing was there. he asked if she swallowed it and he said yes. we're not sure whether to believe her or not, she's only 2 and 3 months. yes, i know doctors say it will pass, don't worry. i'm just wondering if i should look out for signs of something going wrong, just in case. ds has a penny he put in one of those 'shaper' machine things, where they make pennies oval and engrave a pic on there, i'm not sure if that was the one she had or not, if she even had one. do those have sharp edges? i don't remember. i'll watch for it to pass in case she really did swallow one, but anyone know those 'just in case' signs?

  • If she has trouble breathing...a whistling sounds when she breaths, then take her to the ER otherwise, what goes in must come out and will in her poop.

  • Just because your name on here is armywife i am guessing that your DH is in the army. If so then you should be able to call the appointment line at the hospital and talk to the nurse. they will be able to tell you what to look for just in case. Hope there was nothing in her mouth. Good luck.

  • lol the appt line after 7pm? that's laughable. not even an advice nurse is available...not even on weekends. appt lines, advice nurses and clinics are open from 7am-7pm monday through friday. *sigh* i wish i was joking.

i'm not gonna call the doc or anything, i'm not like freaking out lol. i just was asking for signs, just in case. i've never had my kids swallow anything that wasn't food, but i have heard of some things that could go wrong when they do, like get cut inside while it's passing. that's why i'm asking, just to be ready if something looks odd or she's not acting herself, i know what to look for.

Don't just TRY to put her to bed. Just DO IT! :-) Kids need to know who is in charge. Hopefully YOU are.

  • If it went down it will come out. My younger dd ate some of my older dds marbles while I was at work and no one knew until hubby was changing her and told me they were "shiny things in her poop"
