  • So that all of the stem cells and iron in the cord blood make it into the baby's system. It helps protect against jaundice and anemia.

  • I believe it is so that the blood supply can finish delivering to the baby from the placenta.

  • Isn't it also easier and safer to delivery an empty placenta that has already released from the uterine wall on its own than have some ass yank it out when it is still attached and full of baby's blood?
