'pearl discipline'. What is this?

and what is it exactly?

[I'm in Britain, which might explain my ignorance?]

  • A philosphy of child rearing by a preacher and his wife. If you live in a state that has banned corporal punishment their method would be against the law. If you live in a state that says spanking is only okay between ages 2-10 and only on the bottom...their method would be considered abuse. It is the worst pile of hogwash I've ever seen. They are advocating child abuse as far as I'm concerned.

  • You mean "To Train Up a Child" by the Pearls? Horrible, terrible philosophy about training your child to obey you so you won't have discipline problems later.

  • Good grief! I'm just reading over some stuff of theirs now. I could break down and cry! I took 'pearl' to mean something loving and cherishing. How ironic!
Thankyou for clearing this up for me.

It's not popular in the US is it, surely?

  • It is pretty well known in America, mainly by christians, but very few FOLLOW it. It is mostly popular for it extremeness and is often criticized. I have read all of the books by the Pearls(its their last name) and they are abusive and do it in *Gods Name* and back it up with scripture, but I think God has a nice warm spot for them in hell.
