How much game time are your kids allowed?

We have both a PS3 and an Xbox360, I was wondering how much time other parents allowed their kids to play? When I met my SO his kids were allowed to play as much as they wanted. The kids had no chores no responsibilities no nothing. Now if they do the chores all week they get an hour game time on Saturday and another on Sunday. Am I being too harsh?

  • I wont even allow game systems in my house in the first place. So, if you're being too harsh, what does that make me?

  • They can play until they pass out on weekends. They cannot play at all on weekdays unless they earn the time by doing chores. We have a point/minute system for chores where they can earn 5 - 10 minute game time blocks. If they want game time they can ask to do a chore. If they don't want game time then they don't have to do anything.

You are being a bit harsh. You may want to give a little more to inspire them to do well. If you simply take away (almost) everything they enjoy then they have no incentive to be good.

  • Well, I don't think a 2 hours total a week is really fair to them, especially if they are older kids, especially if they are doing their chores during the week. I would give them more time to play, but that's just me.

  • We have a Wii and my 4 year old has to earn a certain amount of stickers to get game time.
