what age did you start giving your child vitamins?

My dd will be 2 in a couple days, so we decided its time to start her on vitamin's so that way i know she is getting all her vitamins she needs! Have you or will you out your children on vitamin pills? If so when do you think you will start?

  • Started both of my kids on Polyvisal w/ iron at 1...once they hit 2 (or when DD does....she's almost there) I switched to the chewable (Flintstones) that were for 2-3 year olds.

  • I was told to have my son take a multivitamin with flouride starting at his 6 month appointment. I don't believe in flouride consumption so I switched Pediatricians.
My son started taking a multivitamin around 18 months.

  • If your child is getting a well balanced diet, then they don't need vitimins. That goes for adults too. Putting vitimins ontop of a well balanced diet can actually put you at risk over overdosing on nutrients. That's what my pedi told me and I whole heartedly agree.

  • He's two, and we just started vitamins within the last 6 months or so. We didn't give them to him every day at first. He started to get picky about his eating, so I wanted to make sure he was getting enough vitamins and minerals each day. He also tested borderline anemic at his 2 yr check up (but he tested in the normal range at a follow up 4 weeks later). He doesn't usually like to eat a lot of meat, so we started using a vitamin with iron (Poly Vi Sol w/ iron) and tried to increase iron rich foods (meat, spinach, raisins, etc). If your child eats pretty well, they may not need one, but I feel better if he has the vitamin most days just to make sure.
